Route suggestions for your cycling trips in the Harz Mountains

Round trip around Blankenburg (Harz)
Starting at the Blankenburg Castle Hotel, the route leads past the fountain in the Thie, the sandstone caves, the Mönchemühlenteich pond, the Hubertus spring, the Michaelstein Monastery and over the Schlossberg hill back to the hotel.
The caves and the monastery are well worth a visit. With a small detour, a climb to the Regenstein castle ruins can even be included in the tour.

Round trip along the Devil's Wall to Quedlinburg
The route takes you from our hotel along the Teufelsmauer (Devil's Wall) towards Timmenrode, via Warnstedt and Thale to Quedlinburg, and back via Westerhausen and Börnecke. Along the way, you'll see the most beautiful rock formations of the famous Teufelsmauer.
We recommend a photo stop at the Hamburg coat of arms as well as a stay in Thale (Hexentanzplatz) and in the UNESCO World Heritage city of Quedlinburg.

Mountain tour towards Elbingerode
This challenging, hilly tour leads over the castle hill of Blankenburg, past Michaelstein Monastery, and westwards. Passing beautiful highlights such as the Volkmarskeller and the Büchenberg Mine, the route continues along meadow and forest paths to Elbingerode.
Here in Elbingerode, a stop for refreshments is worthwhile, and the Büchenberg show mine is worth seeing.

Round trip to Wernigerode
This cycling route leads past the fish ponds, Michaelstein Monastery, the Eggerode Fountain, and the Christianental Wildlife Park directly to Wernigerode's old town. The return journey takes you via Benzingerode, offering fantastic views of the Harz Mountains, and past the Birkental valley.
A visit to the wildlife park is worthwhile at any time of year, and the old town and Wernigerode Castle are well worth seeing.

Round trip to Halberstadt
The route begins at our castle hotel and initially leads towards Benzingerode. The path then continues past Derenburg to Halberstadt – the gateway to the Harz Mountains. The return journey leads via Harsleben and Börnecke.
Tip: In Derenburg, a stop at the Harzkristall glassworks is worthwhile, and in Halberstadt you should definitely visit the medieval cathedral and the cathedral treasury.

Blankenburg as a stopover
The R1 route in Saxony-Anhalt runs from Lutherstadt Wittenberg via Dessau, Köthen, Bernburg, Staßfurt, Ballenstedt, Blankenburg and Wernigerode.
For those planning a multi-day, continuous tour, our castle hotel in the flower town of Blankenburg offers the ideal accommodation. Your bicycle is safe with us!

Downhill at the Bodetal Bike Park
The “Brunhildenritt”, an enduro trail that is easy in the upper part and moderately difficult in the lower part, offers varied riding fun.
Beginners can try their hand at the easy "Harzer Roller" trail or the winding "Bodopass". More daring mountain bikers will get their adrenaline fix on the fast-paced "Rosstrappendownhill".

Mountain biking in the Volksbank Arena
The Harz Mountains are a paradise for mountain bikers. The Volksbank Arena offers a vast network of trails. Starting in Blankenburg, the EL 3 route, "Tough Forest & Meadow Tour," is an exciting tour through extensive forests and meadows, mostly on gravel and forest roads. The starting point is our hotel parking lot. This moderately difficult route covers 52,7 km and can be completed in 4,5 hours.
