Animals of the Harz Mountains marvel
The family-friendly wildlife park, founded in 1974, is located in the elongated Christianental valley south of Wernigerode. Covering an area of 8 hectares, it is home to native forest animals, Harz-typical birds of prey, two lynxes, the rare capercaillie, red and fallow deer, and even domestic animals in the petting zoo (approximately 200 animals of 47 different species).
A visit to the Christianental Wildlife Park is worthwhile in every season. There's a large playground, a promenade, and a forest restaurant. Information panels make the exhibits memorable. Rare flora can also be admired, such as the giant sequoias planted in the 18th century and other botanical rarities like the dawn redwood, bird's-eye maple, yew trees, and much more.
Annual highlights include the Easter egg hunt, the wildlife park festival, the family day and the puppet theater – all organized by the Friends of the Christianental Wildlife Park.
