Wine harvest in the Palatinate

At the Blankenburg Castle Hotel, we place great emphasis on Regionality and seasonalityWe are particularly proud of the selection of German wines on our wine list, especially from the Palatinate, a region known for excellent wines, quality, and tradition. Many years ago, Suzann and Frank Heinemann traveled my first trip to the Palatinate to meet the winegrowers personally and learn more about the exciting process of winemaking. "A wine tour is always inspiring and, above all, educational."“That’s what Suzann Heinemann says. She was particularly impressed by the passion of the winegrowers, who work with heart and soul, in harmony with nature, to get the best out of their vines. Here, quality takes precedence over yield – an approach she greatly appreciates.”

The Palatinate: A paradise for wine lovers

“Of all the German wine regions, the Palatinate is our favorite,” raves Frank Heinemann, a passionate wine lover. The Palatinate impresses not only with its first-class Rieslings, but also with its unique… A mix of tradition and innovation in viticulture“You can feel the love and dedication in every vine, especially in the many family-run vineyards,” Suzann added. They found the gentle generational change Frank describes a group of winegrowers who are developing their viticulture sustainably and in a modern way, while remaining firmly rooted in their traditions. "It's inspiring to see how carefully the people there treat the vineyards and how they meet the climatic challenges," he says.

This A combination of tradition, sustainability and passion This was reflected in the wines they were allowed to taste during the grape harvest. They experienced firsthand how the winemakers worked under intense pressure with great dedication and joy on their wines – a moment that only intensified their enthusiasm for the region.

Winegrowers and wineries in the Palatinate

A visit to the winegrowers of the Palatinate

During their trip, they visited, among other places, the Müller-Catoir Winery in Neustadt an der Weinstraße, the Blaul and Son Winery in Gönnheim as well as the wineries Dr. by Bassermann-Jordan and Mehling in Deidesheim. "It's important to us to know the people behind the wines personally and to understand their philosophy," explains Frank. They were particularly impressed by the variety in the wine cellars: from elegant Riesling to aromatic Pinot Noir and innovative cuvées – there was something for every taste.

"Our goal is to offer our guests a well-organized, yet manageable wine list where everyone can find something to suit their taste."“The wines not only have to be of high quality, but also offer a balanced price-performance ratio,” explains Suzann. “Hardly anyone can imagine what a long and labor-intensive process lies behind wine production and with what passion the winemakers work to offer us an unforgettable taste experience in the glass,” describes Frank.

Wine tour to the Palatinate for the grape harvest

A culinary experience in the castle restaurant

What does this wine tour mean for our guests at the Blankenburg Castle Hotel? Above all, one thing: an unparalleled experience. Wine and culinary experience in our castle restaurantThe carefully selected wines harmonize perfectly with the culinary creations of our kitchen team. "We want our guests not just to enjoy a glass of wine, but to experience the story behind it," says Frank Heinemann. This story begins with the winemakers in the Palatinate region, continues in the wine cellar of the castle hotel, and culminates in the interplay of wine and food. For both of them, one thing is certain: This wine trip was certainly not the last. “We are already looking forward to the next time we visit our winegrower friends in the Palatinate and discover new treasures for our wine list,” Frank concludes.

Our wine list offers not only first-class Rieslings, for which the Palatinate is famous, but also a variety of other interesting grape varieties – a small journey of discovery for wine lovers.
