LOTS OF ACTION AWAITS YOU HERE!

If you want to be active in nature during your holiday and experience new adventures, then the Harz Mountains are your ideal destination! The northernmost low mountain range offers countless opportunities and excursion destinations for the health-conscious, adventurers, active holidaymakers and even adrenaline junkies.

Who is an active holiday in the Harz Mountains suitable for?

Our favourite adventure destinations:

Cross the longest suspension bridge in Germany!
Hängebrücke vor der Staumauer der Rappbodetalsperre mit Bergen und Stausee im Hintergrund

You cross the 458.5 metre long ‘Titan-RT’ from Harzdrenalin directly at the Rappbode dam at 100 metres above the Bode reservoir and enjoy a breathtaking view of the Harz mountain peaks. Crossing the bridge requires a little courage, but is completely safe. Those who like it a little crazier can plunge into the depths directly below the Titan-RT, as the ‘GigaSwing’ is the most spectacular pendulum jump in Europe.

Megazipline – only flying is better
Zipliner vor der Rappbodetalsperre

Another superlative at the Rappbode Reservoir in the Harz Mountains is the largest double rope slide in Europe from Harzdrenalin at 120 metres above the abyss. After making an appointment, you can whizz headfirst along a 1,000 metre long steel cable to the other side of the river bank. On request, a helmet camera will record the experience so that all the slackers among your fellow travellers can share in the adventure afterwards.

Wallrunning – Going one step further on the precipice
Wallrunning an der Talsperre

Secured in a special harness, you ‘walk’ face down, at your own pace, 43 metres down the dam wall of the Wendefurth reservoir. It takes a bit of effort, but gives you an adrenaline rush that you won’t forget in a hurry! Once you reach the bottom, you can be proud of yourself as you look up to the starting point. As proof, you can also have yourself filmed here or capture the crazy perspectives of your descent on film using an action cam on your helmet.

Cycling through the Harz Mountains
Fahrradfahrer bei einer Rast in der Natur

The Harz Mountains are a popular destination for cyclists because our beautiful landscape is best experienced on a bike. Our little town is an ideal starting point for exploring the region by bike. You can join the European long-distance cycle path R1, the Harz-Aller cycle path, the Holtemmeradweg cycle path and the Mobi-Harz routes directly from here. From here you also have a connection to the mountain bike network of the ‘Volksbank Arena’.

Trout in particular thrive in the crystal-clear waters of the Bode – a true paradise for fly fishermen! To fish in the Bode, you must purchase a guest fishing licence from the Treseburg tourist office.

And in the winter?
Harzer Brockenbahn im Winter

As the northernmost low mountain range in Germany, the Harz offers numerous mountain ranges up to 1,141 metres above sea level (Brocken) and is therefore predestined for winter sports. Cross-country skiers and ski hikers can indulge in their hobby on around 500 km of groomed trails through the snow-covered forests of the Harz and take a break in one of the many cosy forest inns and huts along the way. Modern cable cars, chairlifts and drag lifts as well as mountain restaurants and mountain huts and even floodlit pistes make the Harz an excellent downhill skiing area for all skiers and snowboarders. There is also no shortage of ski hire stations, ski and snowboard schools and après-ski in the Harz. And if no flakes fall from the sky, snowmaking facilities ensure the right amount of snow on the mountain. There are also a number of facilities in the Harz Mountains where you can enjoy ice skating, ice hockey, ice disco or curling while having ice-cold fun. Numerous toboggan runs, some with toboggan lifts, provide fast-paced winter fun for the whole family. You can warm up in our wellness area with saunas or with a visit to the nearby Bodetal Therme in Thale.
