Sustainability at the Schlosshotel
OUR SUSTAINABLE HOTEL CONCEPT
Always inspired by our beautiful landscape, we want to lead our Schlosshotel sustainably into the future. We are certainly not there yet, but we are definitely on the right track. But we are not doing it alone. Together with our unique team and our guests, we are taking these steps together.
Environmental and climate protection, biodiversity and social justice are the big issues of our time. We are more than aware of our social and ecological responsibility and rely on a strictly certified ecological concept, carefully selected partners and high quality standards.
As soon as you enter our Schlosshotel, you will realise that we don’t just talk about sustainability, we put our heart and soul into it. To help you better understand our sustainable concept, however, we will give you a closer look at the various topics in our hotel on this page.
“We have made it our heartfelt mission to promote sustainability together with Destination Harz. Our vision is to inspire others through our corporate philosophy and to give impulses on how they can integrate environmental protection and nature conservation into their mission statements.”

House & Equipment
You will see, smell and taste it when you enter our house: Sustainability is a top priority here.
For nature
We take responsibility for the surrounding flora and fauna and do our part to protect and grow them.
Trees for the Harz: Together with André Salomon, forester and mayor of the town of Derenburg, we have already planted over 20,000 trees for the Harz forest.
Ewilpa® project: We want to whet the appetite for new and long-forgotten foods, for nature, for knowledge, for discovery and for natural enjoyment. Behind the Ewilpa® idea is the creation of wild plant parks in which herbaceous wild plants, perennials, shrubs and trees are planted and then allowed to run wild in a controlled manner. The latest ‘edible wild plant park’ starts directly in front of our hotel. With the wildflower meadows, the atmospheric castle park and the historic baroque gardens, our surroundings have turned out to be a real paradise for insects.
Insect hotel: In our endeavour to support and protect natural diversity, we have recently ‘opened’ an insect hotel behind our hotel. Here, numerous insects find a protected habitat.

Everything for the people
At the Schlosshotel, we see sustainability not only as an ecological and economic challenge, but also attach great importance to the social aspect.
Further training: Regular training for our employees in sustainability topics is particularly important to us. With innovative ideas, our ambitious Green Team ensures that our sustainability measures are expanded and that employees and guests are sensitised to the topic. Our management assistant, Sabine Gast, has been a trained sustainability manager since 2024.
Partner of Fair Job Hotels: We have been a partner of Fair Job Hotels since 2023. The initiative is committed to sustainably improving the general image of the industry and presenting the hotel industry with its diverse career opportunities. Find out more here.
Benefits: As a training company, we attach great importance to promoting young talent and offering our employees numerous benefits. Fairness, equality and a healthy work-life balance are a matter of course for us. With extensive benefits and diverse development opportunities, we create a sustainable workplace for our employees.
Space for artists: Since November 2023, we have been opening our doors to talented artists from the region who are allowed to present their work in our historic surroundings. This cultural initiative is part of our commitment to the local community and contributes to the artistic diversity of our region.
We prioritise accessibility and accessibility for people with and without disabilities.

Sustainable simply tastes better
No plastic: In our endeavours to protect the environment, we consistently avoid single-use and portion packaging. We do not use water bottles in the restaurant, instead we provide you with filtered original Harz water in reusable bottles. We avoid portion packaging – instead you can enjoy homemade fruit spreads from the buffet, for example Too Good To Go: We are actively committed to combating food waste, for example by using the ‘Too Good To Go’ app. In this way, we ensure that surplus food is used sensibly and does not end up in the bin.
Seasonal & regional: We consciously use regional seasonal quality products and are particularly proud to work with regional suppliers who provide us with fresh products from the Harz region.
Greentable seal: Our commitment to sustainability was rewarded in 2022 with the prestigious Greentable ‘Sustainable Gastronomy’ seal. This award is only given to catering establishments that are characterised by above-average ecological and socially responsible actions. In this transparent process, sustainability performance is assessed on the basis of twelve evaluation fields that cover ecological, economic and social aspects.
Vegans welcome: Since 2023, we have been a member of VeganWelcome – a company that presents hotels with vegan-friendly cuisine for a healthy and sustainable holiday.
We are always open to new ideas and possibilities and are constantly implementing something new. So if you have any good tips or questions about our sustainability services, we’d love to hear from you. Write to us at direktion@schlosshotel-blankenburg.de and we will get back to you.
